Privacy Policy

My Book Diary is a training journal. What you write in it stays on your device. There is no account to create, nothing to sign in to, and your diary is never uploaded to us or to anyone else.
This policy explains what the app stores, the one thing it sends over the network, and what you can do about it.
What stays on your device
Everything you create in the app is written to the app's own private storage area on your device. That includes:
- Diary pages — headlines, written entries, margin notes, tags and reflections
- Training sessions — movements, sets, loads, repetitions, distances, durations and effort ratings
- Body and readiness measurements you choose to record, such as weight, sleep or resting heart rate
- Photographs you attach to a page
- Handwriting and drawings made with a finger or stylus
- Habits, goals, personal records and programme progress
- Your profile details and app preferences
None of this is transmitted anywhere. It is not backed up to a server we control, and we cannot read it.
If your device backs itself up through iCloud or a computer, your app data may be included in that backup. That backup belongs to you and is governed by Apple's terms, not by this policy.
Photographs and the camera
The app can attach photographs to a diary page, either taken with the camera or chosen from your photo library. You are asked for permission the first time, and you can refuse or change your mind later in the Settings app.
When you attach a photograph, the app looks at it to describe what it shows and to say whether it appears to be training-related. That analysis runs entirely on your device using the image-recognition features built into iOS. The image itself is never uploaded. No copy is sent to us or to any third party, and the description is stored only on your device alongside the page.
Notifications
Reminders
The reminders you switch on — the evening prompt to write your page, habit nudges, and so on — are scheduled locally by iOS on your device. They do not involve a server and their contents are not visible to us.
Push notifications
The app can also receive push notifications sent from our side. To make that possible, and only for that purpose, it registers with Firebase Cloud Messaging, a service provided by Google, and sends two values to our server:

That is the only information the app sends. It carries no name, no email address, no contact details, no location, and none of your diary content. We cannot use it to work out who you are.
Push registration only happens on installations where it is enabled. If it is not, the app never asks for notification permission and never registers.
Firebase Cloud Messaging is operated by Google and handles the delivery of these messages. Google's handling of that data is described in the Firebase privacy documentation and the Google Privacy Policy.
Other network activity
Before showing this policy, the app checks whether the device actually has a working internet connection by contacting Apple's standard connectivity address. That check sends no information about you — it only looks at whether a reply comes back.
The app also fetches this policy document itself so you can read it.
There is no other network activity.
What the app does not do
- No account, no sign-in, no email address collected
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
- No advertising, no ad identifier, no advertising networks
- No location collection
- No contacts, calendar or health data accessed
- No selling or sharing of personal information, because none is collected
- No profiling and no automated decisions about you
Your control over your data
Because your diary lives on your device, you control it directly:
- Export — you can export a single page or your whole diary as plain text from the app, and do whatever you like with it.
- Erase — the app has an option to permanently delete every page, session, record and photograph it holds.
- Delete the app — removing My Book Diary from your device removes everything it stored, including the installation identifier.
- Turn notifications off — you can withdraw notification permission at any time in the Settings app, and the notification token stops being useful.
We hold no copy of your diary, so there is nothing on our side for you to request, correct or have deleted. If you would like the notification token associated with your installation removed from our records, deleting the app achieves the same result, as the token becomes invalid and is discarded.
Children
My Book Diary is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age.
Data retention
Your diary is retained on your device for as long as you keep the app installed, and is deleted when you erase it or remove the app. Notification tokens are retained only for as long as they remain valid for delivering messages to your installation.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version is published here and the date at the top is revised. The app shows you the current policy so that changes are not slipped past you.
